Large - Photo Challenge

What might be larger than the sea? The sky. Here is sea and sky. The pics are from the German Nort Sea, from a small island called Norderney. We love this island for the beautiful white sand at the shores.

At the moment it is a bit difficult with our photo challenge, because Anna is pretty ill. It seems as if she has the same symptoms I had two weeks ago. But my lung infection was from dust. What the hell does she have? We are going to go to a doctor now. It doesn't grow better for days now.

At the moment it is a bit difficult because I'm badly trying to get the bathrooms done, all alone. It's a lot of work and I don't know if I reach my goal getting it all done until Easter and having a clean house after all the dust we swallowed and which is still covering everything in the house.

Ree sent me a lot of pics about funky houses. Some are awesome computer generated pics, but some are real like this one. I immediately noticed that this is in Germany. There are a fiw very little islands in the North Sea which are flooded when a severe storm flood takes part. This is a pic of such an island during a flood. The name of the island is Westerhever.

Burnt House - Where is it?

Where is the burnt house?

Well, the weather has become much better now. It feels already a bit like spring, because the sun ist shining brightly and during the hours at noon it's already quite warm outside. I'm grateful that the winter seems to be nearly over. - So the work at the construction site of the burnt house goes on and the first the workers did was breaking down the complete house.

What you see is only the old cellar with the cellar door and the stairs in from on the cellar-entrance and the ceiling of the old cellar, which has remained. I'm curious if they will also break down the cellar or if they soon will start constructing a new house on the old cellar-walls.

I think the family has a good chance moving into their new house perhaps before next winter.

Anna and I are wondering if we should haul the wooden bench and the desk from the garden-house, where allt he garden furniture is stored during the winter, to the terrace. So we could have a little sun-bath every day as long as the weather stays like this. Wrapped into a thick blanket it's a pleasure feeling the sunbeams on the face.

Burnt House – Update

I promised you to update the burnt-house-story from time to time. After about 3 weeks of inactivity – I think the police had to save all clues first to find out how the fire came into being, if it was really an accident or „Texas lightning“ – the first works are starting to rebuild the house. The yard was cleaned from all the debris and destroyed parts of the walls and the completely destroyed roof have been removed so far. You can also see that the walls have become a little more dry compared to the first pictures.

Look at the window: The reflections look like those you can watch on a lens. It must have been so hot also in this part of the house, where the fire not directly burnt, that the glass partly melted and was formed to a lens-like figure by the hot air which pressed against the window from the inner of the house. The rooms inside are all completely black of soot. Let’s hope that there will soon be a new house and that the family has a good fire-insurance and a good household insurance, because I don’t think that they could save any private goods.

Hot New Year's Eve

On my daily way there is an old house in a neighbor village. This New Year's Eve a firecracker rushed into the attic and the house completely burnt down. The next morning I saw the roof beams which were burnt to a cinder. The rooms in the first story were still there, but totally sooted and the walling was dripping wet. What a terrible view! A few days later the people who had lived in the house came with huge boxes to save the few things that weren't burnt or sooted or destroyed by the water. But already at that time new roof tiles have been delivered, so I think that this house will be rebuilt soon. Perhaps I can show you the progress in a few weeks.

By the way, these are my birthday-flowers this year. I got a lot of wonderful presents this year I didn't expect, from the Ruhr-Valley and from America. Thank you all so much!

Not the Witch's Cottage

There is a little house in the middle of a big, big dark forest. Every morning very early on my way to work I drive through this forest and I can see the colorful lights shimmering through the darkness already from far away. Guess what kind of house it is!

 

Well, it's not

• the witch's cottage and there don't live Hansel and Gretel in it.....
• and it's not a house which is decorated for Christmas yet...
• and it's also not the forester's house.

Um, look at the heart shaped sign and the red lights! It's "Club Golden Gala". What a high-faluting name! I wonder about the fact that the house is already lit such early in the morning. Seems as if there must be a demand already at that time. *grin*

Formerly it has been an inn for wayfarers. But this is long, long ago.

Last year or so they renovated it a lot and I already thought that someone would make a nice home of it like Gary with his Old Crack House (I posted a few days ago about his amazing house-blog), but this didn't happen. What a pity! I think the house could still be a nice little restaurant if someone would rebuild it and offer traditional meals and snacks of good quality. And during summer there could be a beergarden. But it's Club Golden Gala....
