Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhh! Sometimes I hate my computer. Sometimes a bit more than on other days. Today I hate it most.
When I came home from school Friday afternoon Anna was at the door, close to tears. When she surfed the internet and suddenly the computer totally crashed. Nice! She has been on a music website and I guess that this was one of the new evil Trojans or viruses you already get by looking on a site or a picture. I was in a hurry, because my parents were already waiting for me, so we took the crashed computer and Anna’s new one into the car and I fetched all CD`s with programs and all wires I could find in the cellar that might be useful. We also packed some other stuff, because we wanted to stay over night at my parents’ house. We arrived there totally rushed out, because I was awaiting a technician from a big German telephone provider and we were already a bit late. They should lay me a new telephone connection.
But what came wasn’t a well trained technician, but an excited hysterical chicken. The first thing she told us was, that she can’t lay a telephone connection, but only can measure if there would be a signal in the box outside the house where the telephone cable comes from the street. Nice! I explicitly ordered a technician, because there has to be laid a new cable from this box into my rooms. But there was no way talking to her in a reasonable way. She only wanted to get back to her car as quick as possible and every question we tried to ask her, she gave us the feeling that this would be offence of her majesty in personal. She ran around and ordered what to do with the cable as if it would be her house. But when she told my 82 year old father, a former manager of a huge steel company, „young man“ I verbally folded her together. I hate people who don’t have any respect of other people, especially of older people. Well, I preferred not to read ??? (I already must be gaga) talk to her about the cable any more and let her go as fast as possible. After a grievance at the telephone provider I finally got a new date for this morning. First they wanted us to wait for a new technician between 8 and 12 o’ clock (maniana!), but suddenly all was fine and the technician would be at us at 9 o’clock for laying the cable.

By the way, do you remember these modems? I had one.
The rest of the day I commuted between this damned crashed computer to fix it and searching after the former telephone cable, because we wanted to avoid drilling huge new holes everywhere in the walls. Finally I found it, because I remembered, where the telephone has been formerly. After a lot of searching and crawling on the floor and on the attic and after having made a hole into the wall where we first supposed the cable, it was just behind Anna’s bed and there was a flap, which covered it, so that we needn’t make any hole into the wall.
*sigh*
The rest of the night I was sitting at the nasty computer and trying to fix it. At 2 o’clock in the morning I was fed up with it and went to bed for at least a few hours of sleep. This morning the story went on. The technician came and – what a wonder – he was a very nice, friendly elderly man. We could talk to him, we could say what we wanted him to do and it was all no problem for him. He was friendly and well educated. What a pleasure! So we all worked together and about 1 hour later the telephone connection was ready and we needn’t drill a single hole! I tidied up all the rooms where we have been with the cables. Mom just has cleaned the rooms a few days ago, so she was despaired about the new dirt, but I vacuumed all the floors and put all the furniture on their places again.
What was missing, was the internet connection, so I had to configure the rooter, which went extremely well. I didn’t think that there could also go things well after the experience of Friday. But don’t count your chickens before they hatch! For the internet connection I used Anna’s new computer on which is only a ground-installation. So I was mettlesome and tried to install the complete features of the operating system. Needless to say that it went extremely wrong. Afterwards I didn’t have any internet-connection on this computer any longer although the rooter worked fine, and the whole stuff is somehow wrong. There are now two operating systems on the computer and all this I don’t like very much. After a lot of tries with the internet connection I gave in. I must fetch some help first.
Well, then we drove home and I was going to do some urgent things in the household. I thought, well, the crashed computer is fixed again, so you can quickly send some emails and this all will only take a half hour and you can do a lot in the household. But when I had connected the computer there was no internet and a lot of settings I made during the night were removed. It took another hour to find out that the firewall was somehow damaged and caused the problems. After removing and reinstalling it I suddenly had internet.
Now I’m going to drive to the next small town with Anna for fetching some worksheets from Anna’s school friend. Anna has been ill since Tuesday, so she wasn’t at school. All other things have to be postponed to tomorrow, mails, tidying up the house, baking bread, doing the rest of the laundry and cleaning the windows (I hate the dirt on them when the sun is shining brightly).
Scotty, beam me up! I'm exhausted, I want some coffee, I want some TV-watching, ... – I’m away now.
